Haamstede assault

On the evening of February 22nd, the squad formed up for our Friday evening operations. Looking at the map layout and AO placement, it was clear that Haamstede needed to be taken. Unfortunately, Haamstede is situated in the Zeelands, so our only option was to para drop the town, repeatedly.

As the paras of the 75th floated down toward town, it quickly became apparent that this would not be an easy cap. The Germans had set up a defensive MS from Brouwershaven, which meant they could resupply troops into Haamstede very quickly. Undaunted by this disadvantage, the 75th pushed hard on the town. With the 75th leading the way, several fellow Allied units joined our assault. Soon, there were two pilots running continuous flights back and forth from our airfields in Vlissingen.

It was a brutal fight. The trip had to be made a dozen times before the town finally fell, but in the end we were victorious.

You showed great determination guys. Paratrooper assaults can be difficult and unpleasant. Itís hard to board that plane and have to sit still on the way to target and then die have the time before you even hit the ground. The 75th showed real grit. Nobody complained about the numerous flights, the large disadvantage, or the difficulty of the mission. You stuck it through, and we won. Those krauts were booted out of Haamstede and it was all due to your dedication. Nicely done.

Kudos to Nero316 and Dalzielx for finding and destroying the EMS set up outside of town. Additionally, special recognition to Kozhedub for destroying multiple replacements the Axis tried to bring out. It was the very essence of teamwork guys.

Jarny - Metz FB

After having taken Haamstede, the 75th relocated to the town of Jarny. When we arrived the town was under heavy Axis assault, both by infantry and by enemy panzers. Recapturing the spawnable was our first priority, and we accomplished it marvelously. Several members grouped up and ran into the CP as a unit. Kudos to Moffit35 who got the cap and freed the town!

We next assaulted the enemy FB from Metz that was attacking Jarny. Unfortunately, there were no sappers in supply, so the 75th was again had to put on their chutes and hurl themselves out a plane. Even against the odds, several members of the 75th were able to get their satchel charges on the already damaged enemy FB, causing it to be destroyed. This effectively ended the enemy assault on Jarny.

Having freed the town, Nero316 took charge and set up a defensive perimeter at our newly acquired Jarny Ė Metz FB. The formation was set up quickly and crisply. Well done following direction and covering your zones of responsibility gentlemen. The Axis first tried to hit our FB from the north, but their opel was quickly found and destroyed. Next, an opel was detected from the south, along with several enemy infantrymen. You all put up one hell of a good fight for our FB. Jaws909 and Nile in particular used excellent movement tactics with each other while clearing the east road. In addition, Rook12 and Mikedown were position perfectly to mow down the enemy EI approaching from the south. You two did an excellent job of holding your positions close to the FB and taking out the EI as they moved in. Well done.

Ultimately the FB was overwhelmed. Take heart however in the fact that you held off several EI with SMGs, LMGs, sniper rifles, and mortars with only rifles in our supply. The FB may have been lost, but we halted the attack on Jarny cold in its track.

The communication among teammates was excellent. Everyone did a great job of calling out targets, using comms, and playing their own role as part of the team. When the attackers came at the FB from the north, the southern guards stayed in their positions and watched their areas of responsibility. When the attackers came from the south, the northern guards didnít go running due south to look for action. That teamwork and discipline is critical. The 75th is truly shaping up into an amazing unit, and itís because of the team player attitude you all bring to the table every Friday night, well done!

As always, anyone who has comments, suggestions, or just wants to add their own account of how things went is highly encouraged to do so.

P.s. Kudos to Dalzielx for not trying to assault anything with a sniper rifle.
